The Lookstein Center for Jewish Education in the Diaspora
The Lookstein Center provides Jewish educators around the world with unique opportunities to network, interact, learn and grow. This far-reaching institute is melding a rich educational and spiritual partnership between Israel and the Diaspora through innovative programming, professional expertise, quality resources and modern technology.
At the Lookstein Center, which is part of Bar-Ilan's School of Education, we are creating a dynamic network of educators who actively share resources and expertise. Together, the Lookstein Center community is raising educational standards by empowering Jewish educators to grow as professionals, as Jews, and as mentors to Jewish students everywhere.
The Center was named in honor of the late Rabbi Dr. Joseph H. Lookstein, former Chancellor of Bar-Ilan University, founder of the Ramaz School and spiritual leader of Kehillat Jeshurun of New York City. The Center reflects his vision to strengthen Jewish schools, and particularly the educators who lead and teach in them.
The Center's activities currently concentrate on the following:
- Virtual Resource Center: A website for online interaction, information sharing and networking amongst Jewish educators. The site includes virtual "classrooms," in which educators connect and learn together via cutting-edge technologies.
- Programs focusing on issues of leadership in education, particularly for day schools in North America.
- Professional journal and a variety of other publications for Jewish educators.
- Customized curriculum development, school evaluations and consultations for the improvement of Jewish education in specific school settings.
