Israel’s Interplay with the UN Explored by Bar-Ilan Deputy President at NYC Event

New York, NY - With the United Nations (UN) once again at the center of the news with its controversial handling of the growing turmoil in the Middle East, Bar-Ilan University (BIU) Deputy President Prof. Yaffa Zilbershats’ talk on “Israel on the World Stage: Interplay with the U.N.” could not have been more timely. She was the guest speaker at an event held on July 17th, which was sponsored jointly by the American Friends of Bar-Ilan University (AFBIU) and Dorsey & Whitney LLP – the event’s host.

Zilbershats, an international law specialist who was the Dean of the BIU Faculty of Law from 2004-2007, spoke about the current challenges Israel is facing because of how its enemies are trying to manipulate the interpretation of international law in a way that is detrimental to the Jewish homeland. She said that Bar-Ilan is committed to imparting a strong sense of Zionism amongst its diverse student body, and asking its graduates to be vigilant on behalf of the State of Israel in whatever field they enter.

Steven Khadavi, a partner at Dorsey & Whitney, told the over 40 attendees that the law firm’s hosting of this event reflects its growing relationship with the University. Khadavi said that during his last visit to the campus he was pleased to speak with students receiving scholarships through AFBIU, as well as meeting with prominent faculty who are putting BIU at the forefront of Jewish Studies and the fields of science, technology and law.
