Gift of appreciated stock can save you taxes
If you have appreciated stock that you’ve held more than a year, you may find that it is better to donate the stock to AFBIU rather than cash. If you have appreciated stock or mutual funds, you may have to pay capital-gains tax if you sell them. A gift of appreciated stock can reduce the gift’s out-of-pocket cost by avoiding tax on the gift’s appreciation. And, with certain types of gifts, you can be assured of a life income, a current tax deduction, and the elimination of capital-gains tax.
